Types of Social Dances

Waltz (Smooth)
Waltz: the famous dance of western culture. With a 3/4 time signature this historic dance gives a strong sense of 1-2-3, 1-2-3 and leads the couple through slow, methodical paces.

Tango (Smooth)
Sultry. Seductive. Alluring. Tango is all three plus attitude. Fast head snaps, quick, controlled body movements and a finesse that is rivaled by no other.

Foxtrot (Smooth)
Who was Harry Fox? The man who went for a walk with a step…step…side-step…and ushered in the Foxtrot. This casual, strolling dance is great for beginners.

Viennese Waltz (Smooth)
Ball gowns and Austrian royalty paint the perfect picture for this 400-year-old, quick, elegant dance. The Viennese Waltz glides effortlessly across the dance floor with many rotations, both clock-wise and counter-clockwise.

Cha Cha (Rhythm)
Similar to the Mambo, the Cha Cha has sexy hip movements and repetitive foot rhythms. This is a versatile social dance for dance parties, Salsa clubs, and ballroom events. Cha-Cha-Cha!

Rumba (Rhythm)
A sensual dance with alluring Latin-style hip movements and a flirtatious interaction between dance partners. The Rumba moves in a box pattern to a simple 4/4 beat.

East Coast Swing (Rhythm)
The popular East Coast Swing is an up-tempo, relaxed style that is easily adapted to a wide range of tempos. Also called “The Jitterbug,“ Swing has fun spins and intricate patterns that make it exciting for beginning, intermediate, and expert dancers!

West Coast Swing (Rhythm)
The West Coast Swing is great for advanced dancers! This very fun and fast dance has the couple moving along a slotted line on the floor with a compression and extension action in the arms. The man moves aside to allow his partner a clear path to show off!

Mambo (Rhythm)
Great cigars and the Mambo both come from Cuba. Distinct hip motions and the emphasis on beat two of the measure make the Mambo a fun, lively dance!

Bolero (Rhythm)
The Cuban dance of love! Bolero is a graceful and romantic dance set to slow, passionate music. Send the children to bed,put on Groovin’ on a Sunday Afternoon and dance the Bolero!

Salsa (Rhythm)
Salsa has sexy hip movements, flashy turns and exciting spins! It is sensual, energetic, and can be found any night of the week in dance clubs.
